Ganesh Thapa elected AFC Vice-President
All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Mr. Ganesh Thapa was elected as vice-president of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) during the 24th AFC Congress held in Doha, Qatar on Thursday. This is the first time in the history of Nepalese football where Mr. Ganesh Thapa is elected as a Vice- President in the Asian supreme football body.
In his dynamic leadership and continuous effort for the enhancement of football in Nepal he has been successful to achieve this prestigious position. With his tremendous victory, we believe to accelerate the development of Nepalese football in near future. The term for his position will start from 2011-2015.
Mr. Ganesh Thapa one of the four vice-president of the newly elected committee won 25-20 against Iran's Ali Saeed Loo in the voting for the vice-president from South and Central Asian Zone. This post of Vice-president was the only post which was decided through voting.
The other three vice-presidents – Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahamad Shah of Malaysia, Zhang Jilong of China and Yousuf Yaqoob Al Serkal of the UAE, were elected from Asean Zone, Jilong from East Zone and Serkal from West Zone.
Similarly, during the AFC Congress Dinner, ANFA Vice-president Mr. Mahesh Bista and Vice-president Mr. Narendra Shrestha were awarded AFC Gold Distinguish Service Award.
