Distinguished media personalities,

First of all, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) would like to express gratitude for giving a proper coverage of our various tournaments in the past and supporting to popularize sports in the country.

ANFA has been organising different competitions in accordance to its yearly calendar aimed for development and expansion of football in Nepal. In this regard, to encourage the participation of women in football, we have been organising National Women Football Competition, Women League Football Competition and various school level competitions. We are glad to inform that this year ANFA in coordination with its chapter in Rhauthat and Plan International is organising under-17 level girls' competition on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child. The tournament entitled BIAAG (Because I am a Girl) Cup U-17 Football will be held in Chandranighapur-4 of Rahuthat district from 11 to 19 October.

Girls belonging to U-17 age groups from 12 district affiliated with ANFA — Jhapa, Morang, Taplejung, Sarlahi, Rahuthat, Makawanpur, Bara, Nawalparasi, Banke, Kailali, Kanchanpur and Kathmandu -- will participate in the tournament. The teams will compete in two groups on league cum knock out basis; winners from each group will play the semifinals and finals of the tournament. The winning team will be declared as "BIAAG Champion 2014".

Plan International Nepal has been working on access to education, health and protection of girls in Nepal. Plan's Because I am a Girl campaign aims to fight gender inequality, promote girls' rights and lifts millions of girls out of poverty, globally. The aim of the BIAAG Cup tournament is to disseminate the message to the concerned stakeholders and highlight that an investment in girls is an investment for future. Prior to this, ANFA in partnership with Dream Project of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has organised football tournament with a theme of "Our Goal: To End The Violence Against Women".

Plan ensures insurance facilities for girls participating in this football tournament. Girls have also been well sensitized about child protection issues. Plan has supported food, accommodation, transportation and other related expenses to the competing teams. The awards and trophies for the winning teams will be as follows:

  1. Winning team: Trophy, medals and cash prize of Rs.100,000 (Rs. One hundred thousand)
  2. First Runner Up: Trophy, medals and cash prize of Rs. 50,000 (Rs. Fifty thousand)
  3. Both teams playing semi-final: (per team): Rs. 25,000 (Rs. Twenty Five thousand)
  4. Best Goalkeeper: Rs. 5,000 (Rs. Five thousand)
  5. Best Defense: Rs. 5,000 (Rs. Five thousand)
  6. Best Forwards: Rs. 5,000 (Rs. Five thousand)
  7. Best Midfield: Rs. 5,000 (Rs. Five thousand)
  8. Best Coach: Rs. 5,000 (Rs. Five thousand)

The best team and players of the BIAAG Cup will get various opportunities in the different age-group football competitions organized by ANFA next year. We are confident that the best players will demonstrate their skills in the tournaments organized by Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The expected expenditures for the tournament is Rs. 2,433,800(Rs. Two million four hundred thirty three thousand and eight hundred) and Plan International has provided financial assistance of Rs. 1,500,000 (Rs. 1.5 million). We extend our warm gratitude to Plan International Nepal for its support.

Finally, the BIAAG Cup is a football tournament for a cause. It aims to provide girls a platform for demonstrating their talents and contribute for their empowerment. We are optimistic that the media community will provide needful support and would like to request for it accordingly.
