March 17, 2017 - Nepal has been pitted in Group D of the AFC U-23 2018 qualifiers along with Lebanon, Uzbekistan and UAE in the draw that took place in Malaysia on Friday.
A total of 40 teams, divided into 10 groups with four teams in each, will be contenting in the qualifiers. The top teams from each group and five best runner-ups will join host China PR in the main event to be held next year.
The qualifiers will be held from July 19-23, 2017. UAE will be hosting the Group D qualifiers.
Although directly qualified as the host, China PR have expressed interest to participate in the qualifying stage. Therefore, if China finish top of their group or finish among the five best second-placed teams, the next (6th) second-placed team will qualify to the final competition.
