Bhutan crush Lanka

Aug. 20, 2017 - Sri Lanka U-15 football team crashed out of the SAFF U-15 Championship after they were ousted by the Bhutan U-15 team 6-0 at ANFA Complex on Sunday.

DORJI KHANDO and KELZANG JIGMI scored a brace while KINGA WANGCHUK and SIDDHARTHA GURUNG contributed a goal in the win for Bhutan.

With two consecutive defeats in four days Sri Lanka became the first team to exit the six-nation championship.

Bhutan fared better than the Sri Lanka in the entire match, sealing five of the six in the first half itself.

DORJI KHANDO opened the scoring for Bhutan in the 9th minute and added another in the 24th minute.

KELZANG JIGMI added a quick fire double after KINGA WANGCHUK's 31st minute strike. JIGMI scored in the 43rd and 45+1 minute to make the score line 5-0 at the interval.

Bhutan were in complete control in the second half as well but Sri Lanka managed the defense well compared to the second half. SIDDHARTAH GURUNG breached the defense from scoring in the last minute of the match.

After losing the match 6-0 at the hands of Bhutan, head coach of Sri Lanka SUZUKI CHIKASHI said, “We got very less time to prepare for the championship. I must accept the results.”

Bhutan Coach said: “My boys played very well and I am delighted with their performance.”

“Our next match is against Bangladesh and I hope it to be the tough one. I will come with a different strategy against them,” further added LEE.
