Champions APF defeat Biratnagar, continue winning streak

Nepal Armed Police Force Club (APF) earned a hard-fought victory over Biratnagar Metropolitan City (BMC) in the National Women's League on Wednesday.

Having won the title even before the start of the game after Tribhuvan Army Football Club could only draw their match against Nepal Police Club (NPC), APF had to wait until the 55th minute to score against a valiant Biratnagar.

Anita KC broke the deadlock for APF and maintain their winning run in the tournament. APF have won all their 11 matches they have played so far. Their last match is a departmental derby against second placed Tribhuvan Army Football Club.

APF coach Bhagwati Thapa said winning the title was a bittersweet victory for their team. "Yes we won the title but injury to our key player wiped off our celebratory mood," said Thapa. Thapa was referring to the injury to forward Sabitra Bhandari, who was injured in their last match against NPC and now faces a lengthy spell in the sidelines.

Thapa added they also missed Bhandari in today's game. "She is pivotal to our game plan as she has scored most of the goal for us. Without her, we could not play as we wanted in today's match," said Thapa.

Biratnagar's coach Paras Chaudhary was also delighted with the team's performance despite the victory. "Our target was to draw in today's match. After a brilliant first half, my players got tired in the second half and we conceded a goal," said Chaudhary. Chaudhary said they had a wonderful tournament and played better than expected.

Having played all their matches, Biratnagar are currently in third position but can be overtaken both by NPC and Waling Municipality Syangja. Waling are against Chandrapur Municipality Rautahat in their last game while NPC face Chaudandigadhi in their final match.

APF win National Women's League title after Army draw with Police

Nepal Armed Police Force Club (APF) won the National Women's League title after the match between Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Tribhuvan Army Football Club (TAFC) ended on a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.

With one game remaining, TAFC are four points below APF and even a win in their final game, also against APF, won't be enough for them to win the title.

In an entertaining match at ANFA Complex, Amrita Jaisi opened the scoring for NPC. Her header struck Bimala BK and went into the net. Knowing only a win would keep their slim chances of winning the title alive, TAFC romped up the pressure and were finally rewarded in the 53rd minute when Rashmi Ghising scored for them.

NPC could have won the game in added minutes when they were awarded a penalty for a handball by Sunita Chaudhary. But Ghim Kumari Gurung's penalty kick sailed over the bar.

TAFC coach Raju Tamang said they could not create scoring opportunities against NPC. "We played to win the game but conceding an early goal affected our plan. As the tournament closes towards its end, I think my players were tired and could not score," said Tamang.

NPC coach Sanjeev Joshi said the missed penalty was costly for them. "Our target was to finish in the top half of the table but our poor run of form means we should now be content with remaining in the middle of the table," said Joshi.

NPC are fourth with 15 points from 11 games. They play their last match against Chaudandigadhi Municipality Udaypur.

Week-long referee course in Dhading concludes

The seven-day All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) referee course has concluded in Dhading district.

ANFA President Karma Tsering Sherpa concluded the event amid a special function on Monday.

Sherpa expressed his delight at the number of participants who took part in the course and hoped it would contribute towards the development of the game in the country. He also thanked the organizers and the participants who passed the course.

Fifteen of the 31 participants passed the course.

The course was conducted by former FIFA referee Laba Khatri, former FIFA assistant referee Madhusudan Khanal and former FIFA referee Birendra Pandey with Rojen Shrestha coordinating the event.

The week-long course was organized by Chakradevi Community Society Nepal and The Yearly Trust and coordinated pated by Dhading District Football Association.

Chaudandigadhi lose to Chandrapur after goalkeeper error

Chaudandigadhi Municipality Udaypur suffered their 11th consecutive defeat in the National Women's League after error by their goalkeeper condemned them to a 2-1 defeat against Chandrapur Municipality Rautahat.

Rajani Thokar and Dil Kumari Rana Magar scored for Chandrapur to give them their third win in the tournament. Chandrapur took the lead after Chaudandigadhi's goalkeeper Debika Shrestha failed to save a simple shot by Thokar in the additional minutes of first half.

Magar added second after another error by Shrestha in the 67th minute. Manita Tamang pulled a goal back one minute after Chandrapur's second but the team could not find the equalizer which would have earned them their first point of the tournament.

Chandrapur's coach Noorraj Kafle said his team have nothing to gain or lose after their sixth place finish in the league. "We played well today despite the fact that a win or defeat would not have changed our position on the table. Injuries to key players hampered our progress in the league," said Kafle.

Chaudandigadhi's coach Dipak Thapa said the team improved their performance of late but has not been able to win points. "If we compare our early performance to those of now, we can find we have improved a lot. But points have eluded us. We hope to finish strongly in our last match against Nepal Police Club," said Thapa.

Chandrapur will finish sixth on the table as they are five points behind Nepal Police Club (NPC), who have two games on hand, and nine above Chaudandigadhi. Bottom-placed Chaudandigadhi, meanwhile, will go into their last match against NPC scoring four times and letting in 96 goals.
