Agony for Nepal as Bangladesh win maiden SAFF Women's Championship

Bangladesh won their maiden SAFF Women's Championship 2022 defeating Nepal 3-1 in the finals on Monday.

Nepal's hope of lifting the title in front of a sold out crowd at Dasharath Stadium ended in agony. nepal's head coach Kumar Thapa also announced he was leaving his post following the defeat in the finals.

Shamsunnahar gave Bangladesh the lead in the 13th minute. Srimoti Krishnarani Sarkar doubled the lead in the 42nd.

Backed by a vocal crowd Nepal slowly began to put some pessure in the second half. With rain pouring heavily, Anita Basnet pulled one back in the 77th minute. But any comeback from Nepali side was quickly distinguished as Sarkar scored Bangladesh's third in the 77th minute.

It was Bangladesh first ever win over Nepal in the SAFF Women's Championship.

Bangladesh also clean-swept individual award of the competition.

Bangladesh's Sabina Khatun won the Player of the Tournament award. She also won the highest goalscorer award with eight goals.

Goalkeeper Rupna Chakma won the Best Goalkeeper award while Bangladesh also won the Fair Play award.
