Nepal secured their first victory of the SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship with a 2-1 win over Bhutan in Pokhara on Monday.

After suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against India in their opening match, Nepal bounced back strongly to collect three important points in their second group-stage fixture.

Srijana Baduwal put Nepal ahead in the 36th minute, giving the hosts a deserved lead going into halftime. Nepal maintained their attacking intent after the break and extended the advantage in the 69th minute when Prajita Rai found the back of the net.

Bhutan managed to reduce the deficit late in the match as Sonam Choden scored in the 87th minute, but Nepal held firm in the closing minutes to seal the win.

Nepal will now turn their focus to their next group match against Bangladesh, scheduled for Wednesday.
