Final squad for SAFF U-20 Championship announced

The final Nepali squad for the upcoming SAFF U-20 Championship has been announced.

Head coach Urjan Shrestha announced his squad on Saturday.

The Championship will be held in Dasharath Stadium from August 18-28.

Six countries--Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Nepal--are taking part in the regional youth competition.

Final squad:

Goalkeepers: Jiyarath Sheikh, Krishal Moktan, Bishal KC

Defenders: Simanta Thapa, Ashwin Ghorasaini, Bikram Tamang, Ayush Timsina, Madan Paudel, Ram Thapa, Samin Ghimire, Ninsang Limbu

Midfielders: Kushal Deuba, Avinash Syangtan, Jana Prakash Bam, Lachu Thapa, Niraj Karki, Harish Raj Bhatta, Dharbendar Kunwar, Anil Bamjan

Rajendra Shrestha appointed Integrity Officer, Kripa Sharma Safeguarding Officer

ANFA has appointed Rajendra Sharma as the Integrity Officer of the organization.

Shrestha received his appointment letter from General Secretary Kiran Rai at ANFA Complex in Satdobato on Wednesday.

Similarly, Kripa Sharma has been appointed as the Safeguarding Officer. She too received her letter from General Secretary Rai at ANFA Complex.

ANFA Women's League to begin from September 1

The ANFA Women's League is all set to begin from September 1 (Bhadra 16).

ANFA held a meeting at ANFA Complex in Satdobato with participating clubs and confirmed the kick-off date of the League.

ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai and CEO Indraman Tuladhar attended the meeting and provided the participating clubs with an overview of the tournament’s various aspects.

A total of 10 teams--APF Football Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, Chandrapur Municipality, Waling Municipality, Koshi Province, Sudurpaschim Province, Karnali Province, Sankata FC and Bagmati Youth Club--will take part in the competition.

Koshi Province, Sudurpaschim Province and Karnali Province topped the Qualifiers held in Surkhet from April 19 to May 2, 2024 (Baisakh 7-20, 2081) to qualify for the League.  

The team clubs will take part in a single round robin format playing a total of 45 matches in the first round. Following a break, the top five teams from the first round will take part in the double round robin format in the Super League. The top four teams from the Super League will then take part in the Qualifiers, Eliminator and the Finals of the competition.

The tournament will be inaugurated at Dasharath Stadium and matches will also be played at Chyasal Stadium in Chyasal and ANFA Complex in Satdobato.

The participating teams will receive Rs 700,000 as preparation money for the competition.

The tournament will conclude in December.

Former footballer Rai no more

Former footballer and coach Gambhir Rai has passed away on Sunday. He was 56.

Jhapa District Football Association President Bhagirath Ale informed Rai was a diabetic patient and died while on treatment at B&C Hospital.

Rai, a resident of Bhadapur-10 in Jhapa district, had represented Nepal in the U-16 and U-19 level.

He had represetned NRT, Janakpur Churot Factory and Manang Marsyangdi Club in club competitons.

Former Vice President of Jhapa District Football Association, Rai had begun his coaching career after retiring from playing in 2056 BS.
