Nepal crash out of SAFF U-19 Championship after defeat against India

Nepal lost to India on penalties to end their SAFF U-19 Championship 2023 campaign on Wednesday.

After a 1-1 draw, the match headed to penalties which India won 3-2.

India took the lead through Sahil Khurshid in the 26th minute before Samir Tamang equalized in the 74th minute in front of near-capacity crowd at the Dasharath Stadium.

Ashwin Ghorasainee and Kushal Deuba scored for Nepal on the penalties. Lachhu Thapa's shot was saved while Bikram Tamang's shot skied over the bar.

Arjun Singh, Gwgwmsar Goyary and Manglenthang Kipgen scored for India. Dinesh Singh's shot was saved by Nepali goalkeeper Jiyarat Shekh while Ricky Meetei Haobam's shot came off the upright.

In the other semi-final played in the afternoon, Pakistan defeated Bhutan 6-5 on penalties after goalless 90 minutes of the game. Muhammad Adeel, Shah Jahan, Ali Zafar, Khurshid Alam, Muhammad Sadam and Kamil Ahmed Khan scored for Pakistan while Kinzang Tenzing, Jigme Namgyel, Rinzin Dorji, Ugyen Dorji and Pema Zangpo scored for Bhutan. Tshetrim Pelzang's shot in the sudden death went wide.

The final between India and Pakistan will be played on Saturday.

Nepal thump Maldives to reach SAFF U-19 semis, to play against India

Nepal will play against India in the SAFF U-19 Championship 2023 after defeating Maldives 4-1 in the must-win match on Monday.

Following defeat against Pakistan and draw played by Maldives and Pakistan, Nepal had to defeat Maldives to reach the semis of the tournament. Nepal, having finished runner-up of the group, will now play against India in the semi-final after India defeated Bhutan 2-1.

In the first match of the day at Dasharath Stadium, Prashant Laksam opened the scoring for Nepal in the 17th minute of the match. Samir Tamang doubled the lead in the 30th minute before Maldives pulled one back in the 58th minute through Adam Layaan Rasheed.

Nepal restored the two-goal cushion in the 88th through Nirajan Dhami. Samir Tamang then secured the victory in the sixth minute of the game when he scored his second and Nepal's fourth goal.

In the second game which would decide the group winner, India defeated Bhutan 2-1. Bhutan took the lead in the game in the 20th minute through Jigme Namgyel's stunner before Gwgwmsar Goyary levelled the game in the 37th game.

Ricky Meetei Haobam then gave India the victory in the 64th minute.

The semi-final of the competition between India and Nepal will be played on Wednesday at 5:30 pm. The other semi-final between Pakistan and Bhutan will be played on the same day at 1:30 pm.

ANFA Referee Course Phase II begins in Dharan

A seven-day ANFA Referee Course (Phase II) 2023 has begun in Dharan from Friday.

Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality Chairperson Jitendra Rumjali inaugurated the course in Dharan today.

Fifty-seven participants are taking part in the course which will conclude on October 5.

ANFA Referee Course concludes in Dharan 

The seven-day ANFA Referee Course Category-4 course in Dharan has concluded on Tuesday.

Twenty-one of the 51 participants passed the course. 

Chief guest and President of Kepilasagadhi Municipality Samir Rai distributed the certificates to the passed participants.

Fifty-one participants―41 male and 10 women―had taken part in the course.
