Darshan Gurung's double takes NRT to sixth

Darshan Gurung scored a brace as New Road Team (NRT) registered a 2-0 win over Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) to move to sixth in the table of the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Monday.

Gurung scored twice in the space of four minutes to give NRT the win at Dasharath Stadium.

He scored his first in the 69th minute and added the second in the 73rd. JYC also had few opportunities to their name but lacked finishing.

NRT's coach Jeevan Sinkemana, speaking in place of head coach Raju Kaji Shakya who was ill, said they were happy for the win and the vital three points. "Players played very well today. We are happy with the win," said Sinkemana. He added that the team will now try to finish in the top-four spot in the league.

JYC's head coach Kishor Kumar KC said they wanted to win at least a point against NRT today. "We had opportunities which we could not finish and lost rhythm in the second half. We wanted at least a point but could not," said KC.

JYC are 10th in the table with eight points from nine games.

The league will now head for a break and will return after the FIFA international match calendar dates. The postponed match between Chyasal Youth Club and Nepal Police Club will also take place after the break.

ANFA signs football development MoU with SAFF

All Nepal Football (ANFA) and Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) have signed a two-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) on various aspects of football development.

ANFA President Karma Tsering Sherpa and SAFF President Yasser Almisehal signed the MoU in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

As per the agreement, the two sides will invite or host visit to football facilities. There will also be international friendlies and training camps of various age groups teams (U17, U20, U23) between the two sides.

ANFA and SAFF will also carry out exchange programs on referee development, referee education, VAR skills and referee appointments for competitions hosted in both countries.

Various workshops, meetings and seminars will also be conducted to support and encourage expertise resources sharing on youth football development.

ANFA President Sherpa is currently on a visit to Saudi Arabia. He had met with AFC General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John and Deputy General Secretary Vahid Kardany on Saturday. The meeting agreed to resume technical assistance fund for ANFA.

Machhindra strengthen their lead at top after drubbing of Brigade Boys

Machhindra Football Club (MFC) extended their lead at the top to four points after a comfortable 4-0 victory over Khukuri Brigade Boys Club (BBC) in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, Bimal Gharti Magar scored twice and Rejin Subba and Abhishek Rijal scored one apiece to cruise to a comfortable victory at Dasharath Stadium.

Magar opened the scoring in the 56th minute before doubling in the 62nd. After Rejin Subba scored the teams third in the 84th minute, Rijal rounded up BBC's goalie Gurpreet Singh for the fourth in the added minutes.

When asked about their title chances, MFC's head coach Prabesh Katuwal said they still have four games to play and the title was still not won. "Every teams are good. We are atop the standings but the league has not finished. We should give our best to win the remaining matches," said Katuwal.

BBC's Sanoj Shrestha said they were able to stop MMC in the first half but could not contain the second. "We did a good job to stop them in the first half. But I felt my team was overconfident after a good first half and they scored," said Shrestha.

The second game on Sunday between Chyasal Youth Club and Nepal Police Club has been called off due to Covid-19 outbreak among Chyasal players.

Chyasal's game against Nepal Police called off due to Covid-19 outbreak

Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division match between Chyasal Youth Club (CYC) and Nepal Police Club (NPC) on Sunday has been called off due to Covid-19 outbreak among players of Chyasal Youth Club.

CYC had requested ANFA for the match against NPC to be postponed citing 19 of their players had tested positive for Covid-19.

ANFA's League Committee took the decision to postpone the game upon the advice of Medical Committee. A new date for the match will be fixed soon.

CYC and NPC were scheduled to play at 4:45 pm at Dasharath Stadium on Sunday.

The game between New Road Team and Jawalakhel Youth Club on Monday will be played as per the schedule.
