Nepal Police, Brigade Boys under pressure after draw

Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Brigade Boys Club (BBC) played a 1-1 draw in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Monday.

After sharing a point each, both teams are under pressure to escape relegation. NPC have seven points from eight matches and BBC with six points from eight matches are one and two points above the relegation zone.

In a quickfire start to the match at Dasharath Stadium, BBC's Roshan Rana Magar scored in just the second minute to put the team ahead. But NPC bounced back into the game two minutes later through Buddha Tamang. Either sides could have won all the three points but missed opportunities meant both the sides shared spoils in the final game of the eighth round.

NPC's head coach Ananta Raj Thapa said they played an attacking game against BBC but were weak defensively. "We wanted all three points but we were weak defensively. We are happy that we didn't let the team below us win all three points. It is better to win a single point than to lose all three especially against a team below us," said Thapa.

BBC's Sanoj Shrestha said poor marking by his defenders let NPC to get back on the game. "We wanted to score early and we did exactly so. But we were poor in man marking and that helped them get back on the game. Or else it was a good performance from us," said Shrestha.

Machhindra Football Club maintain a single point lead over Manang Marsyangdi Club as the eight round of matches came to a close. Friends Club and Chyasal Youth Club occupy the bottom two slots with three and five points respectively.

The ninth round of matches will begin from January 14.

Three Star defeat Himalayan Sherpa, move to fifth

Three Star Club (TSC) have moved to fifth on the table after a 2-0 victory against Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Sunday.

Ritik Kumar Khadka and Ghanefo Ansumana Kromah scored for TSC in the win at Dasharath Stadium.

Khadka scored in the 57th minute when he miscontrolled Kromah's pass only for the ball to deflect off HSC Amrit Shrestha's leg roll into the net. TSC's second goal through Kromah was scored in the seventh minute of the added time when Lakhen Limbu fed the ball to him. Kromah kept his cool to find the net and ensured the points for TSC.

TSC's head coach Urjan Shrestha said he was happy with the win and glad that the team had found its rhythm back. "It was a difficult first half for us and they put pressure on us. But we scored in the second half and things became comparatively easy for us," he said.

HSC's Yugal Kishor Rai said his team played a good game in the first half. "We were good in the first half but our second half was poor. The first goal turned the tide against us," he said.

TSC leapfrogged HSC to fifth on the table following the win. They have 13 points from eight games with three wins and two draws. HSC are sixth with 11 points.

Nepal Police Club will play Brigade Boys Club in the only game on Monday as the eight rounds of games come to a close. The match will be played at 1 pm at Dasharath Stadium.

Tribhuvan Army defeat NRT, level points with third-placed Sankata

Tribhuvan Army Football Club (TAFC) defeated New Road Team (NRT) 1-0 and levelled points with third placed Sankata Club in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Saturday.

Dinesh Henjan scored the only goal of the game for TAFC in the 17th minute. Henjan headed in the goal after he dived in to meet Jagjeet Shrestha's cross.

TAFC were a better side in the game maintaining possession and attacking the opposition goal. George Prince Karki and Henjan both had wonderful opportunities to double the lead but NRT's goalkeeper Ajit Prajapati was in solid form to quell their attacks.

TAFC's head coach Nabin Neupane said his side had to win to maintain the pace with teams above them and his players performed their duties well. "My players played as per our plan. We stopped opposition's players from creating chances. This win also solidifies our chances of a top four finish," said Neupane.

NRT's Raju Kaji Shakya said his players had an off day at the job and came under severe pressure. "I think we didn't even one shot on target in today's game. I don't know if it was my players who were switched off or my tactics didn't work," said Shakya.

NRT remain at seventh place in the table with 10 points from eight games. TAFC and Sankata are level on 14 points but Sankata lead with better goal difference.

Three Star Club will play Himalayan Sherpa Club in the only game on Sunday. The game will be played at 4:45 pm at Dasharath Stadium.
