National team begins training for AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers

The national men's football team began training for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers from Friday.

Twenty-five players have been called up for the closed camp by head coach Abdullah Almutairi. Twenty-four players joined the camp from Friday. Goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong, currently in Maldives, will join the camp later, said national football team manager Madhusudan Upadhyay.

Head coach Almutairi also laid out plans of the national team in the press meet called on Friday. "We need to be realistic. We will fight but we cannot qualify for AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers," said Almutairi. "The opponents are very strong for us to qualify," he added.

Almutairi also revealed there have been talks for friendlies before the Qualifiers. "We are in talks with some countries for friendlies but as of now nothing has been confirmed. We are still in talks," said Almutairi.

Nepal have been drawn against Jordan, Kuwait and Indonesia in the Group A of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

Nepal will play its first game against Jordan on June 8 followed by against Kuwait on June 11. The final game against Indonesia will be played on June 14.

All the matches will be played in Kuwait.

Nepal lose to Tajikistan in second match

Tajikistan defeated Nepal 11-1 in the second match of AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Monday.

Aadil Hamid had given Nepal the lead in the third minute but a hat-trick from Sardorov Fayzali and braces from Yorov Idris, Rizomov Samandar, Halimov Shavqat and Kuziev Umed gave Tajikistan a comfortable victory.

Nepal had lost their first match to Uzbekistan by 5-1. Nepal will now play their final match against Afghanistan on Tuesday.

Waling earn first point as APF lead table after first round

Waling Municipality Syangja earned their first points after securing a 1-1 draw against Lalitpur Metropolitan City in the National Women's League 2078 on Wednesday.

Hima Rawat scored the goal for Waling in the 14th minute. Waling could have walked away with all three points but an unfortunate own goal by Sanji Thing in the 62nd minute forced them to share points.

In the other game of the day, goals from Sabitra Bhandari (65') and Saru Limbu (76') helped APF Football Club to a 2-1 win over Biratnagar Metropolitan City. Ema Rai scored the goal for Biratnagar.

APF also lead the table as the first round of the league comes to an end in Chitwan. Maintaining a cent percent result, APF have 21 points, a six points advantage over second-placed Nepal Police Club which lead over Tribhuvan Army Football Club by virtue of better head-to-head difference.

The second round matches of the league will be played in Chitwan. The fixtures of the second round will be released soon.

Nepal finish AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers winless after Afghanistan defeat

Nepal conclude their AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers without a win after losing 8-1 to Afghanistan in their final match on Tuesday.

Sumit Shrestha had scored the only goal for Neal in the 39th minute.

Abdul ghafar Sadeqi scored a hat-trick and Reza Karimi got a brace for Afghanistan. Mortaza Mohammadi, Sayed Mahdi Hashimi and Ali Amiri also scored one each for Afghanistan.

Nepal had lost their opening match to Uzbekistan by 5-1 and went down 11-1 to Tajikistan in the second match.

The national futsal team will now return home on Wednesday.
