Sherpa edge Satdobato, move to fifth

Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) moved up to fifth on the table after a narrow 1-0 victory over Satdobato Youth Club (SYC) in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Monday.

Bishwas Shrestha scored the only penalty on the stroke of half-time to give the win for HSC. SYC also had a penalty in the added minutes of the game but Martin Adelphe Nanga's shot was well saved by Deep Karki.

SYC remain eighth on the table after the defeat.

HSC's coach Yugal Kishor Rai said it was difficult for the team to defend their lead in the second half. "We played under pressure in the second half as they came attacking. But three points is what matters at the end in the football match," said Rai. He also complained about the worn pitch condition at Dasharath Stadium.

SYC's coach Suraj Maharjan, standing in for Megh Raj KC who is bereaved of his mother's death, said the team played well and had the opportunity to snatch a point. "Martin is a good player who has just returned after an injury. He played a good match and his penalty was also good. These things happen in a match," said Maharjan.

The seventh rounds of matches of the league have come to an end. Machhindra Football Club leads the table and have qualified for Asian Cup Qualifiers while Chyasal Youth Club and Friends Club lie at the bottom.

Machhindra qualify for AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers with win over Nepal Police Club

Machhindra Football Club (MFC) have qualified for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers after a 1-0 victory over Nepal Police Club (NPC) in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Sunday.

Sunil Bal headed in the only goal for MFC in the 22nd minute. It was Bal's fifth goal in the league and he now leads the scoring chart.

MFC were dominant in the game and could have added few others goals if it was not for NPC's goalkeeper Satrughan Chaudhary's heroics. Chaudhary made a number of saves for the departmental side. NPC were second-best team throughout the game but could not threaten the opposition.

MFC's head coach Prabesh Katuwal said he was happy to secure qualification for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers. "We were under pressure to win and injury to few of our players was a worrying sign. But we did win and I am very happy for the team," said Katuwal.

NPC's head coach Ananta Raj Thapa said he was happy with the team's performance but not with the result. "Of late, results have not been in our favour. We gave a tough fight against the top side but we conceded a soft goal in set-pieces and handed over the result to them," said Thapa.

Satdobato Youth Club will play Himalayan Sherpa Club in the only game on Monday. The game will be played at 1 pm.
