Sankata, Chyasal share spoils

Sankata Club (SC) and Chyasal Youth Club (CYC) shared points after a goalless draw in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Saturday.

In a highly contested match at Dasharath Stadium, both sides wasted opportunities to break the deadlock. Goal-shy CYC has roped in Santosh Sahukhala to address their scoring woes and the forward has made an immediate impact on the team's performance.

CYC's head coach Bal Gopal Sahukhala also agreed his team had performed better as compared to previous games. "He [Santosh] has for sure made a big impact. We played an intense games, throwing bodies almost everywhere. We created chances and a goal would have justified our performance but we should also be happy with the draw," said Sahukhala.

SC's Bishnu Gurung also echoed CYC head coach's remarks. "Their intensity was high in today's match as compared to previous matches. Santosh Sahukhala's presence has improved their performance," he said. Gurung said his side too had created chances but lacked the finishing touch.

Nepal Police Club (NPC) will play Machhindra Football Club (MFC) in a vital match on Sunday. The match at 4:45 pm will decide MFC's fate in the Asian Cup Qualifiers. Only a win would secure MFC's place in the Qualifiers.

Bista's solitary goal helps Manang to win over Brigade Boys

Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) kept their chances of making it to the AFC Cup Qualifiers alive after a 1-0 victory over Brigade Boys Club (BBC) in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Saturday.

In the match played at Pokhara Stadium, Anjan Bista scored the only goal of the game just before half time for MMC. BBC could have taken the lead in the game after they were awarded a penalty in the 15th minute after Sishir Lekhi was brought down inside the box by Aditya Chaudhary. But Lekhi shot his penalty kick wide off the bar.

With the table-topper after seventh round securing their place in the AFC Cup Qualifiers, only a win would have kept MMC's chances alive and Bista delivered for them in the victory. MMC now have to wait for the result of the match between Machhindra Football Club and Nepal Police Club on Sunday. If Machhindra lose points against Nepal Police, MMC will qualify for the AFC Cup Qualifiers.

But if Machhindra win the match, they will qualify for the tournament in MMC's expense.

Three Star back to winning days with 2-1 victory over Jawalakhel

Three Star Club (TSC) climbed to fifth on the table after a 2-1 victory over Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Saturday.

Ayush Ghalan opened the scoring for TSC in the seventh minute before Ritik Kumar Khadka doubled it in the 26th. Ghalan thought he had scored the team's third in the 36th but was ruled offside by match officials.

After going 2-0 down in the first half, JYC romped up the pressure in the second and found the net through Nicholas Fernandes in the 55th minute.

TSC's coach Urjan Shrestha said they were happy to score after a barren run. "We are even more delighted with the win. But we played good game only in the first half. Our second half was poor," said Shrestha.

JYC's Kishor Kumar KC blamed poor pitch condition and referees decision played a big part in their defeat. "My players played well but they were let down by the poor pitch condition and referees not being fair in their decision making," said KC.

The second match of the day at Dasharath Stadium will be played between Chyasal Youth Club and Sankata Youth Club at 4:45 pm.

NRT edge Friends 3-2, move to fifth

New Road Team (NRT) quelled off a spirited fightback from Friends Club to register a 3-2 win in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Friday.

All the goals of the game were scored by foreign players. Messouke Oloumou scored twice and Stephane Samir Binong scored one for NRT while Jamoul Francois and Nathaniel Jude Garcia scored for Friends.

Binong opened the opening in the fifth minute and Messouke doubled the goal advantage in the 20th minute to give a 2-0 lead for NRT at the break. Francois pulled one back for Friends but the comeback was soon put to rest by Messouke's second in the fourth minute of the added time.

Garcia scored Friends second in the sixth and final minute of the added time and they ran out of time for any chances of levelling the score.

NRT's head coach Raju Kaji Shakya said their defending looked shaky at times in second half but held on for the win. "We came for three points and we achieved it. We came under pressure in the second half when they attacked us but I am happy for the win," Shakya said.

Friends Club's head coach Mrigendra Mishra said they put on a hopeless show in the first half but bounced back in the second. "Our second half performance was good. Pressure has started to get us but we still have games to play," Mishra said when questioned about the club's chances of survival in the top-tier.

Three Star Club will play Jawalakhel Youth Club in the first match at Dasharath Stadium on Saturday at 1 pm. The second match between Manang Marsyangdi Club and Brigade Boys Club will be played in Pokhara at 2 pm while the third match between Sankata Club and Chyasal Youth Club will be played at Dasharath Stadium at 4:45 pm.
