Church Boys United defeated defending champions Machhindra Football Club 2-1 to climb to the top of the standings of the Martyr's Memorial A Division League 2023.
In the match at ANFA Complex in Satdobato, Anjan Bista gave Church Boys the lead in the 41st minute. Machhindra levelled through Omolaja Nurain Kareem's penalty kick in the 65th minute but Kamal Shrestha scored six minutes later to give Church Boys the victory.
Church Boys now have a three point lead over second-placed Jawalakhel Youth Club as the 16th round of the league draws to an end. Machhindra are fourth with 24 points.
In the other match at Dasharath Stadium, APF Football Club defeated Tribhuvan Army Football Club 3-0 in the departmental derby.
APF took the lead in the 41st minute when Army's substitute Youdha Shahi inadvertently put the ball into his own net. Armand Beadoum's shot had gone past rushing Army goalkeeper Bikesh Kuthu but hit the upright. A sliding Shahi in an attempt to clear the ball shot the ball into his own net.
APF's second goal was scored by Awas Lamichhane who took advantage of a defensive error by Army to bury it into the net in the 56th minute. Six minutes later, Nabin Lama danced past few Army defenders to secure all the three points.
The victory moves APF above Army in sixth place with 22 points while Army are a point below.

Jawalakhel Youth Club returned to the top of the standings of Martyr's Memorial A Division League 2023 after defeating Himalayan Sherpa 1-0 on Tuesday.
An own goal from Amrit Shrestha in the 23rd minute at Dasharath Stadium was enough for Jawalakhel to go top. Both Jawalakhel and Church Boys United, who face defending Champions Machhindra Football Club on Wednesday, are level on 27 points but Jawalakhel top the standings due to better head-to-head difference between the two sides.
Three Star Club missed chance to level points with table toppers after being frustrated by New Road Team for a goalless draw at Dasharath Stadium.
In the other match at Chyasal Stadium, Sankata Club defeated Royal Blue Satdobato Youth Club with a brace from Youssef Atriss. A victory for Satdobato would have put them in the second place but the defeat means they are fifth with 23 points.
Atriss scored Sankata's first from the spot in the 14th minute and added another in the 26th.
The victory puts Sankata in ninth place with 20 points.

Aminu gave Friends the lead in the fourth minute and doubled it in the 16th. Messouke scored Khumaltar's goal in the 67th minute to ignite any hopes of a comeback or a leveler. Dona Thapa was sent off for a double bookable offense in the 71st minute.
But Khatri scored six minutes after Thapa's red card to put off any hopes of comeback from Khumaltar.
The other match at ANFA Complex in Satdobato between Nepal Police Club and Manang Marsyangdi Club ended in 2-2 draw. Ahmad Hijazi gave Police the lead in the 16th minute before goals from Roshan Rana Magar and Sayidjamol Davlatjonov put Manang ahead in the first half. Magar levelled the game in the 33rd minute and Davlatjonov put Manang ahead in the 44th.
But Hijazi scored again in the 71st minute to level the game and share points between the two sides.
