Teams confident of winning SAFF Women's title

Both Nepal and Bangladesh expressed their optimism to win the title of the SAFF Women's Championship 2022 when the two teams meet in the final on Monday.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Bangladesh and Nepal's team coaches said they would win the trophy.

Bangladeshi coach Golam Rabbani Choton said his players were ready to face a tough competition in Nepal in the final tomorrow. "My players are ready and we hope to win the title," said Choton. Choton said he knew a capacity crowd would turn out for the match but will be unfazed by it.

"We have played in front of large crowds cheering for their teams and won the matches. My players are ready for the crowd too," he said.

Nepal's Kumar Thapa said the crowd cheering for them would be a big motivating factor for the players on the pitch. "There is the chance to win the title and there is the chance to win title for the crowd cheering for us. We don't want anyone to take the trophy home. We want it to be here with us," said Thapa.

Thapa said his team was mentally and physically prepared for the final. "We defeated India and created history. But we have another big opportunity to create bigger history. We want to add a star atop of our logo in our jersey," he said pointing to the ANFA logo on the jersey.

Nepal will face Bangladesh in the final at Dasharath Stadium at 5 pm on Monday.

Nepal defeat India for historic win, reach SAFF Women's Championship final

Rashmi Ghising's solitary goal helped Nepal defeat India in semi final of SAFF Women's Championship 2022.

The goal in the added minutes of first half helped Nepal win their first ever match over India in the regional competition.

Nepal were dominant throughout the game but lacked the finishing edge upfront.

Preeti Rai's shot in the 33rd minute sailed few meters above the bar.

Rai shot few inches from the upright in the second half.

India also had some moments to bring the match level but saw their chances go to waste.

Bangladesh's 8-0 victory over Bhutan in the other semi-final means SAFF Women's Championship will get a new champion. India have won all the previous editions of the competition.

It is also the first time India has failed to reach the competition final.
