Nepal will play against arch rival India on Sunday with a win guaranteeing a place in the final of the SAFF Championship.
Nepal has only won once against India in SAFF Championship, a 2-1 victory in the 2013 championship held in Kathmandu. Overall the two sides have met 21 times with Nepal defeating India in only two occasions.
Nepal and India played two friendlies on September 2 and 5 in Dasharath Stadium. The first friendly ended in a 1-1 draw while India won the second one 2-1.
Nepal have won both the matches in the SAFF Championship defeating hosts and defending champions Maldives 1-0 in the first match while overcoming Sri Lanka 3-2 in the second. India are among the favorites in the Championship but have drawn both the matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Nepal's head coach Abdullah Almutairi said India is a very tough team to play against. "It is going to be difficult to play against India. They are the best team in the region and are seven times champions," he said. He added India are favorites for the win but Nepal will give their best. "I think they have 95 percent chances of winning while we have only one percent," he said.
Nepal's captain Kiran Kumar Limbu said they are taking every games step by step and they have a big test against India. "We have already passed two steps, India is another step for us. We will fight for victory," said Limbu.
The match will be played at National Stadium in Male at 9 pm local time.
