Manang drop points in race against Machhindra, Satdobato defeat Nepal Police

Machhindra Football Club (MFC) moved six clear at the top of standings after a comfortable 2-0 win over troubled Chyasal Youth Club (CYC) and courtesy of draw between Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) and Three Star Club (TSC) in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Saturday.

In the other game at ANFA Complex, Satdobato Youth Club (SYC) edged Nepal Police Club (NPC) 1-0 in a highly-contested match.

Second-placed MMC could not cut the deficit to the league leaders after playing a 1-1 draw against rivals TSC.

In the first match at Dasharath Stadium, Bimal Gharti Magar and Sunil Bal scored for the leaders against the bottom-placed CYC. Gharti Magar opened the scoring in the 17th minute which was doubled by Sunil Bal in the 35th. The match was briefly halted in the second half when Manish Dangi suffered a nasty head injury after a collision with another player.

Dangi, who substituted goalscorer Bal in the 61st, collided with Yannick Ketcha and fell on his head to the ground. Match referee Shyam Danuwar immediately halted the match and medics rushed to unconscious Dangi. After briefly administering him, medics took him to Blue Cross Hospital in an ambulance. The hospital later issued a statement saying the player was treated in the emergency ward and is currently out of danger.

With three games remaining, MFC have 26 points from 10 matches and are undefeated in the league conceding just one goal. CYC, meanwhile, languish at the bottom with five points from 10 matches.

In the other match played at ANFA Complex, Akash Buda Magar scored from a penalty in the 19th minute to give SYC a narrow victory over NPC. Buda Magar was brought down inside the box by Hemanta Shrestha prompting referee Nabindra Maharjan to point to the penalty spot.

NPC romped up the pressure in the second half but a resolute defending from SYC coupled with some fine saves by their goalkeeper Abhishek Baral gave them the victory.

The victory took SYC to fifth on the table with 15 points from 10 games. NPC remain in the 10th place with 10 points.

The third match between arch rivals MMC and TSC ended in an entertaining draw. MMC, needing a win to keep pressure on leaders MFC, took the lead through Dayananda Elangbam in the 62nd minute. But TSC levelled through Ritik Kumar Khadka in the 71st minute.

The draw meant MMC now have 20 points from 10 games and need something very special to overtake leaders MFC, who have dropped just two points so far maintaining six points lead at the top, with just nine points available. TSC are fourth with 17 points, one point behind Tribhvuan Army Football Club and two ahead of SYC.

New Road Team (NRT) will play Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) in the first match at Dasharath Stadium on Sunday at 1 pm. The second match between APF Football Club and Sankata Club will be played at 4:45 pm.

Nepal Police pile more pressure on Chyasal

Nepal Police Club (NPC) piled more pressure on Chyasal Youth Club (CYC) with a 2-1 victory in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Wednesday.

Ravi Shankar Paswan scored both the goals for NPC in the victory. He opened the score in the 37th minute when his cross spun and went into the net. CYC levelled through Moussa Abagana in the 53rd minute through a penalty after Rumesh Bartaula was brought down by Suman Subedi in the box.

But Paswan restored NPC's lead in the 70th minute and secured all three points in the match.

NPC's head coach Ananta Raj Thapa said his team needed three points and took them rather comfortably. "There was some pressure on us after we took the lead but we held on. The first half was under our control and we were able to score a goal," said Thapa. When asked if his team had thwarted relegation, Thapa responded by saying their status in the top-tier would be safe after they put on positive performance in the remaining games.

CYC's Technical Director Leigh Manson, standing in for suspended head coach Bal Gopal Sahukhala, said they were still taking on the disappointment of the defeat. "We played football the right way in the second half. We created numerous chances just could not put the ball in the back of the net. And that has been the story so far of our season," said Leigh.

Leigh said his team hadn’t had much luck in front of the goal. "The first goal they scored spun off the player's leg. Even the scorer was surprised. That is the kind of luck we are having. But this is football," Manson said.

CYC remain in the 13th position with five points from nine matches. NPC climb a place above to 10 with 10 points from nine games.

The game also concluded the ninth round of the league. Machhindra Football Club have a four point lead over NOC Manang Marsyangdi Club while Friends Club, along with CYC, are in the relegation zone.
