U-20 national team squad down to 30

The number of players in the U-20 national team, currently in closed camp for the SAFF U-20 Championship in India and AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers in Bahrain, has been reduced to 30.

Head coach Meghraj KC has left out 11 players from the 41 players called up for the squad.

Nepal will play its first match of the SAFF U-20 Championship against Maldives on July 25. Their second match against Sri Lanka on July 27 followed by India on the 31st. Nepal's final group match will be against Bangladesh on August 2. Nepal will play its first match against Bhutan on September 10 and second match against Qatar on September 12. The third match will be against Bahrain on September 14 and fourth against Bangladesh on September 18.

SAFF Women's Championship to be held in Nepal

Nepal will host the SAFF Women's Championship from August 29 – September 10, 2022 after South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) endorsed Nepal's proposal to hold the regional football competition in Kathmandu.

Nepali delegation led by All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) General Secretary Kiran Rai had proposed the date to hold the competition in Kathmandu. The delegation had also met SAFF General Secretary Anwarul Haq Helal in Dhaka on Friday.

The proposal was endorsed by the SAFF Executive Committee meeting prior to the SAFF Ordinary Congress 2022. The SAFF Ordinary Congress 2022 was also held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dhaka.

The SAFF Ordinary Congress 2022 elected Kazi Md. Salahuddin unopposed as SAFF President. Salahuddin will now serve in the post until 2026. The Congress also appointed Bhutan Football Federation General Secretary Ugyen Wangchhuk as the SAFF Executive Committee Member till 2026, and Jaswar Umar, President of the Sri Lanka Football Federation as the AFC Executive Committee Member representing SAFF.

Likewise, the SAFF Disciplinary and Ethics Code and SAFF Code of Conduct was also approved by the Executive Committee.

Nepali delegate call on SAFF General Secretary in Dhaka

All Nepal Football Association delegate led by General Secretary Kiran Rai has met SAFF General Secretary Anwarul Haq Helal at SAFF Headquarters in Dhaka on Friday.

General Secretary Rai, Ex CO member Bikash Narayan Shrestha and New Road Team President Sundar Narsingh Joshi discussed the proposed date for SAFF Women's Championship in Kathmandu.

General Secretary Rai proposed the August 29 to September 10 date to hold SAFF Women's Championship in Kathmandu. SAFF General Secretary Haq was positive towards the proposal.

The proposed date will now be tabled in the SAFF Congress on Saturday for endorsement.

The duo also discussed about various football development and footballing aspects in the regional association.

Diwakar Gurung appointed team manager of U-20 national team

Diwakar Ghale Gurung has been appointed as the team manager of the U-20 national team on Friday.

Gurung, also the President of Mahabir Club, will take charge of the team in the upcoming SAFF U-20 Championship to be held in India from July 25 to August 3. He will also overlook the team in the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers to be held from September 10 to 18 in Bahrain.

The national U-20 is currently in closed camp for the tournaments.

Nepal will play its first match of the SAFF U-20 Championship against Maldives on July 25. Their second match against Sri Lanka on July 27 followed by India on the 31st. Nepal's final group match will be against Bangladesh on August 2.

The national U-20 side have been drawn alongside Qatar, Bahrain, Bangladesh and Bhutan in the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

Nepal will play its first match against Bhutan on September 10 and second match against Qatar on September 12. The third match will be against Bahrain on September 14 and fourth against Bangladesh on September 18.
